Concord, NH. Yamaha's first New England dealership north of Boston. Three pianos in stock, one telephone line, one tuning hammer.
Since 1969
Three generations. One showroom. Every Yamaha and Roland model worth carrying. The longest-running family-owned piano dealer in New Hampshire.
Our Story
Darrell's Music Hall opened in 1969 on a side street in Concord, NH. Kenneth Hennessy, a piano tuner with no retail experience and a station wagon full of stories, hung a hand-painted sign and started selling Yamaha uprights one at a time. He was the only Yamaha dealer north of Boston.
Fifty-seven years later, Kenneth's grandson Darrell runs the showroom on Main Street in Nashua. The hand-painted sign is gone. The Yamaha franchise is still here. So is the trade-in policy, the tuning crew, and the principle Kenneth printed on the back of his first business card: "A piano is a member of the family. Treat it like one."
Three Generations
Concord, NH. Yamaha's first New England dealership north of Boston. Three pianos in stock, one telephone line, one tuning hammer.
Lebanon, NH. The Upper Valley gets a Yamaha franchise. Kenneth drives the inventory up Route 89 himself.
The flagship store moves to a larger Concord location. The piano people start using that phrase on the back of every invoice.
A third location, this time inside Pheasant Lane Mall in Nashua. The retail revolution comes to Darrell's, sort of.
Adam and Nicole Hennessy take over day-to-day operations. The Disklavier era begins. Kenneth keeps tuning.
Darrell's becomes the exclusive Yamaha dealer for the Massachusetts Music Project, supplying conservatories and competitions across New England.
The Showroom
Six thousand square feet, three private listening rooms, a concert grand, and on a quiet morning the only sound is whichever instrument someone is trying out.
